Darren Johnston Ensemble: Songs From Seven Miles World Premiere. Based on a series of interviews, Johnston's new song cycle draws on the stories of immigrants now living in the US. From Mayan day-laborers migrated from Chiapas, to an Ethiopian doctor who escaped the communist regime in his homeland in the '80s, to a Peruvian dancer fleeing persecution for his sexuality, their stories are diverse and deeply human. This premiere performance will feature four of the Bay Area's leading vocal stars backed by Johnston's critically acclaimed quintet.
