Brass, Bows & Beats: A Hip-Hop Symphony

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Jazz Mafia's most ambitious work to date, the SFJAZZ-commissioned Brass, Bows & Beats: A Hip-Hop Symphony. Premiered to the sold-out Palace of Fine Arts Theatre at the San Francisco Jazz Festival, BB&B became a sensation on the North American jazz festival circuit with the entire 50-piece Jazz Mafia Symphony playing Newport, Montreal, Monterey, San Jose, and Stern Grove. For the first time in eight years, the full Jazz Mafia Symphony reunites on one stage, performing reimagined selections of Brass, Bows & Beats, as well as the world premieres of several new works that feature surprise special guests.

This is what SF/Arts curator Jesse Hamlin has to say about Brass, Bows & Beats: A Hip-Hop Symphony :

Led by trombone-playing multi-instrumentalist Adam Theis, the Jazz Mafia crew brings together a 50-piece aggregation of instrumentalists, singers and rappers to reprise its magnum opus, Brass, Bows & Beats: A Hip-Hop Symphony, ten years after SFJAZZ commissioned it. They’ll play new music, too.
