The Faust Myth on Stage and Screen

Roxie Theater

Explore the many faces of Faust and the devil in theater, film, and opera with theater director Carey Perloff, filmmaker Jon Else, and dramaturg Kip Cranna.

This is what SF/Arts curator Sura Wood had to say about The Faust Myth on Stage and Screen :

The Faust legend—a cautionary tale of a man who sells his soul to the devil—has been an irresistible subject for filmmakers, choreographers, playwrights and composers (Jake Heggie’s latest opera, “If I Were You,” presents Faust as a disillusioned writer and the devil as a beautiful woman). Theater director Carey Perloff, filmmaker Jon Else and dramaturg Kip Cranna show clips and discuss the many faces of Satan at this special onstage event.
