By Molly Smith Metzler; directed by Molly Aaronson-Gelb. Presented in association with Custom Made Theatre. Cry It Out is a hilarious, provocative, honest look at parenthood, class and the impossibility of "having it all." Set in part of Long Island where class lines and property lines bump up against each other, Cry It Out is the story of Jesse, a Manhattan lawyer trapped in the suburbs with her newborn and Lina her next-door neighbor who is a working class long-islander and college drop out. With nothing in common but Baby Bjorns, sleep deprivation, and Nose Fridas, their form as quick bond that reaches as far as their baby monitors will stretch.
This dark comedy by Molly Smith Metzler, about parenthood, class differences and how mothers’ choices affect their kids, premiered at the prestigious Humana Festival in Louisville. Now Just Theater brings it to us, directed by Molly Aaronson-Gelb and featuring a cast of four including the excellent actors Martha Brigham, Lauren Spencer and Lauren English. The title refers to more than just the let’em-cry theory of child rearing.
