Haines Gallery

Haines Gallery presents a group exhibition bringing together works by seven contemporary artists from around the world to explore the conventions, possibilities and limits of portraiture. Paintings by Mike Henderson, Taha Heydari and Aimé Mpane; photographs by Matt Lipps and Shirin Neshat; lightboxes by Kota Ezawa; and mixed-media pieces by Maurizio Anzeri examine the genre of portraiture.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Likenesses :

Haines summer group show provides an excellent re-consideration of portraiture as it relates to capturing likeness – either through depiction, mood, or method. An early self-portrait by San Francisco legend Mike Henderson doubles as a telling portrait of 1960s San Francisco, while Taha Heydari’s paintings similarly capture the mood leading up to the Iranian revolution.
