The Cake

New Conservatory Theatre Center

Things are on the rise for Della. She's been accepted as a contestant on the Great American Baking Show, her faith is as solid as ever, and her goddaughter, Jen, is back in town and wants Della to bake her wedding cake. But cracks start to appear in Della's idyllic life when she learns Jen is marrying a woman - something that goes against everything Della believes.

This is what SF/Arts curator Jean Schiffman has to say about The Cake :

In Bekah Brunstetter’s comedy, a baker and devout Christian is forced to re-examine her beliefs and even her marriage when her goddaughter asks her to bake a cake for her wedding—to a woman. The four-character play, set in North Carolina, is directed by Tracy Ward. Brunstetter, who writes for the NBC hit “This Is Us,” started working on the play after reading about similar conflicts nationwide. Tracy Ward directs.
