Mr. Klein

Roxie Theater

A rediscovered 1976 masterpiece by blacklisted American director Joseph Losey, this slow-burning French thriller starring Alain Delon and featuring a special appearance by Jeanne Moreau, dissects the hatred, paranoia-infused fear & anti-Semitism of Occupied France. An indictment of French complicity, this is said to be Delon's favorite film, and his selection for this year's Cannes Film Festival.

This is what SF/Arts curator Sura Wood has to say about Mr. Klein :

The feral Alain Delon stars in an overlooked masterpiece about anti-Semitism di-rected by blacklisted American director Joseph Losey. It’s 1942 in occupied Paris and Mr. Klein is riding high, profiting from valuables sold for a pittance by des-perate Jews fleeing the Nazis, After a Jewish newspaper is delivered to his elegant apartment, he makes frantic attempts to prove his Aryan heritage and embarks on a quest to find the doppelganger who shares his name.
