This year’s headliner is the international sensation, Grammy Award-winning Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter and composer ALEX CUBA. Sharing the stage with three fantastic musical acts including Warango (AfroPeru), Diabbla (Chicana rap) and DJ Lizzy al Toque (Chulita Vinyl Club).

Don’t miss this evening of Latin Soul, Afro Peruvian roots music, Hip-Hop en Español and classic dance grooves.

SF/Arts Curator Insight

The longest-running Spanish/English newspaper in the country, El Tecolote began in 1970 as a journalism project in a Raza Studies class at SFSU. In 1982, the grassroots group produced the first Encuentro del Canto Popular, a music festival highlighting the political and folk revivalist genre of nueva canción. Today, the tradition continues: this fundraiser will support Acción Latina, a Mission nonprofit promoting culture, community, and civic engagement in Latino communities. Alex Cuba, a decorated Cuban singer-songwriter, will headline, alongside Oakland’s Warango (Afro-Peruvian roots band), San Francisco’s Diabbla (Chicana rapper), and Chulita Vinyl Club’s DJ Lizzy al Toque.
