Joan Takayama-Ogawa: Global Warming

Themes + Projects

Artist statement: These abstract figurative sculptures powered with outdoor energy efficient LED lights, are a call for the reversal of global warming. Three-dimensional wall sculptures remind us that beneath the deep blue sea a world of environmental change is occurring. We are all accessories and responsible for this environmental crime.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Joan Takayama-Ogawa: Global Warming :

Central to this solo exhibition by Joan Takayama-Ogama is a series of exquisitely rendered table-top sculptures, lit from within with LEDs and calling our attention to the precarious survival of the coral reef, impacted as it is by environmental toxins, rising seawaters and global warming. Another ceramic series presents delightfully rendered desserts, including one titled “Trump Trash.”
