Hans Hofmann: The Nature of Abstraction

UC Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive

Spanning the entirety of the artist's career, this exhibition presents a fresh and eye-opening examination of Hans Hofmann's prolific and innovative artistic practice.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Hans Hofmann: The Nature of Abstraction :

In 1963 Hofmann donated nearly 50 paintings and a significant cash contribution toward the completion of BAMPFA’s first building, in recognition of the University’s role in allowing him to escape WWII Germany; today BAMPFA houses the world’s most extensive collection of Hofmann’s work. This exhibition surveys the work from his entire career in honor of honor of his myriad contributions to art history.
