Modern Cinema

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) announces the ninth season of Modern Cinema featuring Haunted! Gothic Tales by Women, a film series exploring the dynamic interactions between cinema's past and present. Films include Frankenstein; The Company of Wolves; Interview with a Vampire; Wuthering Heights; Jane Eyre; and The Haunting. Modern Cinema tickets do not include admission to SFMOMA galleries. Ticket-holders for Modern Cinema should enter through the museum's Joyce and Larry Stupski Entrance on Minna St.

This is what SF/Arts curator Sura Wood has to say about Modern Cinema :

SFMOMA’s ninth iteration of Modern Cinema takes on a juicy subject: 80 years of movies from top directors based on Gothic tales penned by female writers. It includes adaptations of literary works by authors including the Brontes, Mary Shelley, Harper Lee, Daphne du Maurier, Toni Morrison and Anne Rice. Hitchcock’s “Rebecca,” Cocteau’s “Beauty and the Beast” and James Whale’s rendition of “Frankenstein” are among the program’s two dozen films.
