The North Beach Festival features more than 20 gourmet food vendors, several stages of live music, and more than 100 art and crafts vendors. There is also a kids' chalk art area, Italian street painting, and a 'blessing of the animals' ceremony on both afternoons. All activities are on Grant Avenue between Columbus and Filbert; Columbus Avenue between Broadway and Green; and Vallejo and Green Streets between Columbus and Grant Avenue.
North Beach’s long-running festival is one of the country’s first street fairs. Despite the changing face of the neighborhood, the fest is filled with reminders of its Italian and Beat roots, with poetry readings, gourmet food, art booths, Italian street painting and chalk art, and the singular afternoon ritual of the blessing of people’s pets at the shrine that honors Saint Francis of Assisi, San Francisco’s patron saint.
