Bodies on the Line

Berkeley Art Center

Bodies on the Line: Sound, Performance, Endurance. Curated by Rhiannon Evans MacFadyen, founder of Black & White Projects, the artists in this show place the body at the center of their practice, bringing to light the urgency, endurance, violence and magic associated with being black and female in 2019. Through live performances and broad documentation of past performances -- including video recordings, photographs and objects -- the exhibition explores radically different approaches to understanding issues of performativity related to gender, race and queerness.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Bodies on the Line :

This three-person exhibition centered on the Black female body considers recent performative works by Simone Bailey, Chris Evans and Beatrice L. Thomas (aka Black Benatar), focused on understanding issues related to gender, race and queerness. Works are presented through live performances and documentation of past works, including video, photography and performance ephemera.
