How the West Was Won

Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University

Here the Cantor presents a new suite of woodblock prints from the truly great artist Yinka Shonibare--each collaged image depicts the iconic American cowboy overlaid with the artist's signature motif, Dutch wax fabric traditionally created in Europe for export to Africa, alluding to the fabrication of colonial myths around place, identity, and sense of self.
