Presented by the California Film Institute, the 42nd Festival runs October 3--13, 2019. Locations this year include: Ciné[email protected] (Mill Valley), Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center (San Rafael), Cinemark's Century Theater Larkspur, Lark Theatre (Larkspur), and other theatres throughout the Bay Area.
This community event features prestige art house fare like Pedro Almodovar’s “Pain and Glory,” a rumination on the life of a director, and films with local connections. Fans of Star Wars will warm to “Mad Dreams and Monsters,” a portrait of special effects wizard and creature maestro, Berkeley’s own Phil Tippett. He's the man behind Jabba the Hut, the Cantina’s alien barflies, the Imperial Walkers and the dino animation for Jurassic Park.
