Dorothea Lange: Photography as Activism

Oakland Museum of California

Experience the iconic life and work of Dorothea Lange, world-renowned documentary photographer, with an expanded section in the Gallery of California Art dedicated to her works.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Dorothea Lange: Photography as Activism :

This new semi-permanent exhibition in the Gallery of California Art considers the social activism embedded in the work of American documentary photographer and photojournalist Dorothea Lange. Best known for Depression-era work for the Farm Security Administration, Lange’s career is also defined by images that offered lens-based critique of the Japanese American Internment camps.
