Stefan Kürten: True Colors Opening

Hosfelt Gallery

Stefan Kürten's paintings explore the complexities of our universal yearning for the ideal place to call home. His source material includes appropriated images from architecture and design magazines as well as photographs he has taken during his global travels. These become starting points for carefully constructed scenes whose idyllic environments belie their illusory promise of ultimate happiness.Reception for the artist: Saturday, February 1 from 4 to 6 pm

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Stefan Kürten: True Colors Opening :

Stefan Kürten’s paintings depict the iconic mid-century modern architecture of so many West Coast homes and estates – the artist is a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, though he once studied at the San Francisco Art Institute – but there is a sinister underlying narrative in these utopic images featuring an arid red sky, or dead grass, or traces of graffiti.
