Private Lives

African-American Shakespeare Company

African-American Shakes artistic director L. Peter Callender notes, of choosing Noel Coward's witty 1930 comedy about honeymooning couples, that director Charles Randolph-Wright once said, "I love seeing Black people looking fabulously fierce on stage!" Callender shares that sentiment. Leontyne Mbele-Mbong heads the cast as Amanda; director Clay David resets the action in 1929 Paris--"the historical French Black beau monde."
