23nd DocFest
About
Welcome to the 23rd San Francisco Documentary Festival featuring 90 new non-fiction films from around the world and around The Bay!
SF/Arts Curator Insight
DocFest’s reliably eclectic programming includes the rousing “Black Rio! Black Power!,” which explores the key role Rio’s soul music scene played in the struggle for racial equality during Brazil’s dictatorship and its influence on Hip Hop and Funk in the 70s. The fest’s closer, “23 Mile,” part cinema verite, part political journal, charts the troubling events that transpired in the crucial state of Michigan, in 2020; none more notorious than the shocking plot to kidnap the state’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer.
