In Alejandro Iñárritu’s 2014 film Birdman, Antonio Sánchez’ drumming served as a companion, counterweight, and commentary on the psychological turmoil of Michael Keaton’s character. Sánchez’ largely improvised solo drumming won a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack (as well as a BAFTA and a Critic’s Choice Award), and the film won the Oscar for Best Picture.
