Tap dance meets jazz rhythms in Dorrance Dance’s production of this holiday classic. Danced to Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s jazz interpretation of the classic Tchaikovsky score, The Nutcracker Suite boogies, slides, struts, and dives through the magical story of a young girl and her fantastical Christmas adventure.

Our local region is home to amazing “Nutcracker” productions and this December, a new interpretation joins those impressive ranks. Presented by Cal Performances, Dorrance Dance brings their “The Nutcracker Suite” to Zellerbach Hall. Led by Artistic Director Michelle Dorrance, this Bay Area premiere features full-throttle tap dance, re-imagined characters and a score by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn that blends the beloved Tchaikovsky score with jazz’s dynamics, richness and syncopation.
