Elizabeth Sher: Surreality
About
As Elizabeth Sher sheltered in place, as we all did in 2020, her studio became a refuge, its own unique artist residency. Repeated mark-making became a calming physical mantra, resulting in the series "Graphing an Uncertain Future". A lack of clarity on many fronts--the smoke and devastation of wildfires, news stories repeating endlessly--inspired "Smoke Screens". In "What’s Inside These Shorts?" short videos reassess the tumultuous year.
Founded in 2006, Mercury 20 is a contemporary art gallery established, supported and operated by San Francisco Bay Area artists. Mercury 20 maintains a gallery space in Oakland, CA as well as an online sales platform. Our collective operating structure supports our ability to experiment, develop, exhibit and advance our work and to sustain our arts community.
