SF/Arts Curator Insight
The grand sweep of American literature contains a distinct gap when it comes to First Peoples, making “The Last Human Bear,” Greg Sarris’ first novel in 28 years, long overdue. Previously the author of “The Forgetters” (2024), “Grand Avenue” (1994), and “Watermelon Nights” (1998), Sarris is also a tribal leader currently serving his seventeenth term as Chairman of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. He appears in conversation with ZYZZYVA editor Oscar Villalon.
