International Ocean Film Festival
About
Every year, IOFF produces an acclaimed festival of ocean-themed films from all over the world that are largely unavailable to the general public. Themes range from marine science and industry to sports and adventure. We look for films that entertain, educate, and encourage active participation in ocean conservation.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
The oceans are vast and this intrepid fest’s 50-odd works revel in their majesty and power, while mining the mystery of the depths and exploring earth’s ever-more fragile ecosystems. Among this year’s selections: “Big Waves Guardians,” which visits a treacherous 7-mile stretch of beach known for its enormous swells on Hawaii’s North Shore. There, rescuers protect the daring surfers who succumb to the lure of the deep blue sea’s beauty at their peril.
