Kelp!
About
836M is proud to announce a new exhibition centered on California’s endangered kelp forests. Presented in association with the Erol Foundation and Above/Below, two organizations invested in raising awareness and finding solutions in the areas of climate action, ocean stewardship and environmental equity, KELP! features the work of more than half a dozen visual artists, including Tiffany Bozic, Ann Holsberry, Josie Iselin, Ellen Litwiller, Lina Prairie and Laurie Sawyer.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
There is probably no better space in which to mount a show titled "Kelp" than 836M Gallery, which has windows on three sides and feels something like a fish bowl. This collaboration, combining scientific presentation and art practice, focuses on the Bull Kelp forest off the coast of Northern California, which has recently gone through significant upheaval, nearly disappearing completely a few years back then vigorously rebounding last year. The show's six visual artists have practices inspired by the coastal landscape and infused with the activism to preserve it.
