Oakland native Leila Mottley, who served as the city’s 2018 Youth Poet Laureate and shocked the literary world with her first novel “Nightcrawling”, which debuted at #8 on the NYT bestseller list when she was 20 years old, discusses her new novel “The Girls Who Grew Big.” The book follows a fierce group of teenage mothers in a small town on the Florida panhandle, with a fresh and bighearted perspective on the joys and conflicts of young womanhood.
