Berkeley Arts & Letters presents Matthew Desmond, author of four previous books including “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City”, which earned many awards including the Pulitzer Prize for “a deeply researched exposé that showed how mass evictions after the 2008 economic crash were less a consequence than a cause of poverty.” He discusses “Poverty, By America”, which argues poverty persists here because the rest of us benefit from it.
