About
A powerful, driving, and charged duet that seeks to understand the politics of the Black body in a contemporary western society. Through striking imagery, raw physicality and emotional intensity the performance challenges the historical racial projections of blackness – its crudeness, threat, sexuality, rage and immorality – unveiling its power, grace, sensuality, tenderness, intelligence and love.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
The San Francisco International Arts Festival returns to various venues in the Mission District with their annual collection of global experimental performance. The dance programming is particularly exciting this year with Bharatanatyam, Flamenco, Cirque, Kathak and of course modern dance. In partnership with San Francisco-based Irish Culture Bay Area, and representing Ireland/Nigeria/Belgium, Mufutau Yusuf brings the West Coast premiere of “Impasse,” a high-octane, contemporary duet that mines the politics of the Black Body, simultaneously confronting history and assumption while revealing resilience and love.
