Nishat Khan: A Tribute to Zakir Hussain
About
In celebration of what would have been Ustad Zakir Hussain’s 75th birthday, Ustad Nishat Khan will perform this special concert in tribute to his longtime friend and musical collaborator. In 2024 the global music world lost a luminary when Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73. It was also a great loss for the music community of the Bay Area to which Zakir had called home for many years.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
Sitar virtuoso Nishat Khan is the torchbearer of the most recorded musical family in the world: the Imdad Khani Gharana of North India. Carrying forth seven generations of Indian classical music wisdom, Khan has been touring around the world since the age of 13. In this special performance in Berkeley, he’ll honor the legacy of his lifelong friend and collaborator Ustad Zakir Hussain in an intimate tribute, marking what would have been the tabla master’s 75th birthday after he passed in San Francisco in December 2024.
