Pinocchio
About
A living puppet, with the help of a cricket as his conscience, must prove himself worthy to become a real boy.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
There have been live action versions of Carlo Collodi’s 1883 children’s novel: A 1922 film starring Tom Hanks, and Guillermo del Toro’s reimagined stop-motion fantasia that mixed political metaphor and intimations of fascism with musical interludes —even a puppet who danced for Mussolini. But, it’s Disney’s 1940 animated classic, about Geppetto and the enchanted marionette he wishes were “a real boy” that audiences love. Cue a falling star, a nose that grows every time he tells a lie and Jiminy Cricket as his conscience.
