About
Printed & Stitched will feature 58 original works exploring the connection between printing and stitching, all by members of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (California/Nevada Regions) and the California Society of Printmakers. Printmakers often reference fiber and stitching, while textile artists/art quilters incorporate printed elements into their work. At their confluence, there is pigment and pressure, woven layers, and borders sewn with fiber. There is color and also texture, form, intention, ingenuity, and many stories. Textile and print go hand in hand, and the combinations are constantly being reinvented.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
A traveling exhibition making its San Jose debut, Printed & Stitched will feature 58 original textile works exploring the connection between printing and stitching, all by members of the two west coast organizations Studio Art Quilt Associates and the California Society of Printmakers. Printmakers often reference fiber and stitching, while textile artists/art quilters incorporate printed elements into their work. This relationship results in a vast expression of color, texture, form, and ingenuity. Printed & Stitched seeks to name and display the centuries old confluence of textile and print as creative forms constantly on the precipice of reinvention.
