Oakland curator Elena Gross gets physical, collecting artists whose work centers the lesbian body through feminist art practice. Self-described "mercurial mixed media artist" Alexa Burrell contributes an installation that views image production as an "atmospheric weather system," pondering the ghostly feel of early cinema, the female body's centrality in art history, and the fleshy reality of 1920s global sensation Josephine Baker. I'm not sure what's going on in Sienna Freeman's abstract photo-based collages, but they engender a sensual sense of play along with a spicy kick of kink. "'Sideways Glance' invokes the (lesbian) erotic as a site of potentiality and becoming." There is a lot of pleasure to be had in this exploration of presence and power.
