About
Fraenkel Gallery presents SLICE OF THE PIE: Fourteen Bay Area Galleries & What Makes Them Different, a group exhibition that brings together a vibrant cross-section of some of the Bay Area’s most influential and idiosyncratic art galleries. Featuring work by more than 40 artists, the exhibition illuminates the diverse perspectives and practices that define the region’s rich gallery ecosystem.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
The subtitle "Fourteen Bay Area galleries and what makes them different" describes this group show's premise rather efficiently. Fraenkel honors the collaborative nature of the local art scene by dedicating its walls to a wide range of curatorial practices and perspectives, new upstarts and beloved institutions. Let's hope the pie in question remains roughly the same size, while noting the number of organizations vying for a slice has (significantly) contracted with last year's shuttering of a handful of beloved spaces (looking -- correction -- sadly, no longer looking at you Gallery 16). Yet, this exhibition reminds us there is still much vitality, talent, and innovation to celebrate.
