SF/Arts Curator Insight
Sune Christiansen's colorful compositions seem abstract at first glance, but then a foot appears, the bend of a knee, a high-heeled shoe at the end of wobbly leg. Is that cluster of black dots a face? Maybe that bright red shape is a character in repose. Colors force the eye to travel, creating a kinetic energy that is picked up and expanded via the bright glaze vibrating across Nick Makanna's clay girder sculptures. That one resembles a medieval cathedral; maybe this one was an early draft for the Eiffel Tower, or a maquette for a futuristic wind turbine.
