The Turntable Trio
About
Pioneers of New Turntablism, Maria Chávez, Evicshen (aka Victoria Shen) and Mariam Rezaei come together in this historical, head-scrambling, boundary-shattering trio.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
The Turntable Trio are pioneers of ‘New Turntablism’: scratching, beat-juggling, sampling, and looping raw material with familiar and esoteric hardware, like acrylic fingernails with embedded turntable needles. An experiment in sound, instrumentation, and composition, the trio is comprised of San Francisco’s Evicshen and New York’s Maria Chávez and Mariam Rezaei, all three expert turntablists and sound artists, as well as women of color. The trio is supported by Oakland’s brujería queens Las Sucias: expect a range of noise from heady to fleshy, with more than a twinge of performance art.
