ArtSpan's Open Studios is Back!

In its 48th Year, the Largest and Longest Running Open Studios Event in the U.S. gives an Economic Boost to Artists Hard-Hit by the Pandemic.

Discover, explore, and be inspired by the creative power of San Francisco Bay Area artists this fall at ArtSpan’s SF Open Studios (SFOS). Over four weekends, from October 20 through November 13, 2022, ArtSpan invites the public to visit for free the creative spaces of local artists to see where their magic happens and to purchase work directly from creators. A beloved annual tradition since 1975, ArtSpan’s citywide SFOS offers residents and tourists the free opportunity to engage directly with the artists responsible for the unique creative culture and vibrancy that attracts admirers from all over the world.

“We are ecstatic to present SF Open Studios in-person after such a long and challenging year,” says ArtSpan Executive Director Joen Madonna. “Many in our artist community were hard hit by the pandemic. There is no better way to support them than to get out there and buy some art. SF Open Studios is always a wonderful occasion to explore different parts of the city, meet people from our community, and reconnect with what makes this such a remarkable place. With such a diversity of artists there are price points for everyone. If you have been stuck at home staring at the same walls, why not change it up and support a local artist while you are at it.”

Reflecting on the role ArtSpan and SF Open Studios has played in her creative career artist Nathalie Fabri says, “I truly believe I would not be where I am in my career if it weren’t for ArtSpan. Joining ArtSpan gave me the facility to start showing my art through different venues and helped me meet successful artists in the community.”

Artist-hosted open studio events are accompanied by the expansive SFOS Exhibition of 350+ artworks at the SOMArts Cultural Center. The SFOS Exhibition celebrates the abundant creativity of the region and provides a preview of participating SFOS artists. The exhibition will host a number of in-person festivities, including ArtLaunch, the SF Open Studios kick-off celebration on October 20, and a collector event on November 9.
With a full lineup of events and celebrations, SF Open Studios promises to add a hefty dose of creativity to your fall.
