ArtSpan has been giving us the opportunity to engage with art and artists on the ground since 1975, and the festival continues to grow from strength to stength. This year, from September 16 through November 21, we can support local artists and studios and engage with some of the Bay Area's greatest artistic talent. So get out there, discover, learn, be inspired, and, better still, buy some art!

“We are ecstatic to present SF Open Studios in-person after such a long and challenging year,” says ArtSpan Executive Director Joen Madonna. “Many in our artist community were hard hit by the pandemic. There is no better way to support them than to get out there and buy some art. Open Studios is always a wonderful occasion to explore different parts of the city, meet people from our community, and reconnect with what makes this such a remarkable place. With such a diversity of artists there are price points for everyone. If you have been stuck at home staring at the same walls, why not change it up and support a local artist while you are at it.” 

This year’s SFOS encompasses two months of engaging events: beginning with a month of artist-hosted Open Studios, from September 16 through October 17, followed by an expansive exhibition on-view from October 21 through November 21. SFOS includes traditional weekend studio visits, plus expanded mid-week celebrations, receptions, sidewalk pop-ups, and virtual happenings. With diverse events occurring throughout the region, there’s something for everyone to connect with more than 500 artists!

ArtSpan’s new web app features a full calendar of events and a responsive map to “see art near you” based on your live location.  

The SFOS Exhibition presents the work of 400+ Bay Area artists at the SOMArts Cultural Center. On view from October 21 through November 21, the show celebrates the abundant creativity of the region and is accompanied by a variety of festivities in the exhibition space; including an opening party, art salons, and more as allowed by continued minimized COVID-restrictions.
